Der internationale Zertifizierer Ecocert muss seinen Standard für Wasch- und Reinigungsmittel (WPR) weiterentwickeln. Ansonsten sind WPR-Produkte mit Ecocert-Zertifizierung nach den Sortimentsrichtlinien des Biofachhandels bald nicht mehr erlaubt.
Warum Ecocert seinen WPR-Standard anpassen muss
Ecocert erlaubt in seinem WPR-Standard Enzyme, die von gentechnisch veränderten Mikroorganismen hergestellt wurden. Gentechnikfrei muss lediglich das Substrat sein, von dem sich die Mikroorganismen ernähren. Auch sind eine Reihe von Inhaltsstoffen petrochemischen Ursprungs zugelassen.
Dennoch wurde in den vom Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren (BNN) und vom Naturkost Süd getragen Sortimentsrichtlinien (SRL) die Ecocert-Zertifizierung für WPR bisher anerkannt, ebenso wie die Standards von Austria Bio Garantie, Ecocarantie, NCP (Nature Care Product).
Übergangszeit bis Ende 2022
Im Dezember 2018 hat das für die Entwicklung der SRL zuständige Lenkungsgremium beschlossen, den Ecocert-Standard nicht weiter anzuerkennen und nur noch bis Ende 2022 zu dulden. Das Lenkungsgremium fordert den Zertifizierer auf, während dieser Übergangszeit seinen Standard weiterzuentwickeln.
„So muss Ecocert bis spätestens Ende 2022 die Möglichkeiten zum Einrsatz (teil-)petrochemischer Inhaltsstoffe noch weiter reduzieren und den Verzicht auf Enzyme, die durch gentechnisch veränderte Mikroorganismen hergestellt werden, vorschreiben, damit Produkte mit diesen Labels weiterhin im Naturkostfachhandel geführt werden können“, schreibt Cornelia Dressler vom BNN in der aktuellen Mitgliederinfo von Naturkost Süd.
Was Hersteller jetzt beachten müssen
Hersteller, die in dieser Zeit das Ecocert-Siegel weiter verwenden, müssen lückenlos nachweisen, dass eingesetzte Enzyme gentechnikfrei hergestellt wurden und dies auf der Verpackung dokumentieren, heißt es in der Richtlinie. Darin wird Ecocert auch aufgefordert, jährlich bis 30. Juni zu berichten, welche Entwicklungsschritte zum Ersatz (teil-)petrochemischer Inhaltsstoffe umgesetzt wurden. Die anderen Standards erlauben neben den auch in der Naturkosnmetik zulässigen naturidentischen Konservierungsstoffen lediglich den Bleichmittelaktivator TAED und Polyaspartate als Komplexbildner. Ecocert ist da bisher deutlich großzügiger.
Derzeit tragen noch zahlreiche Produkte der Hersteller Almawin/Klar, Ecover und Sodasan das Ecocert-Siegel, oft zusätzlich zum Ecogarantie-Siegel.

The title of this article suggests that we may have been unreferenced on the overall German organic retail market which is not correct. Ecocert is still listed in the BNN guide and will be accepted until at least 2022.

The Ecocert Natural Detergent standard is one of the strictest eco-friendly labels
Our standard was created in consultation with stakeholders such as manufacturers, distributors but also consumers. Our main objective is to certify environmentally-friendly detergents, by promoting the use of natural origin ingredients, including organic ingredients where possible. Our standards requirements have been developed with a view to minimising the environmental impact of the products we certify. This had an influence on all the choices we have made with the industry. This standard has been recognised internationally and valued for over 10 years thanks to its strict requirements.
Ecocert is also the only ISO 17065 accredited body for natural/organic detergents thus providing clients and consumers with substantial guarantees through independent audits and the delivery of certifications.
Referring back to the guidelines, focusing simply on two criteria and excluding all other requirements cannot serve as a basis for qualifying the thoroughness of any kind of certification process
Our professional label and the high level of our environmental requirements have been recognised not only in France by the ADEME (French Environment [&] Energy Management Agency) in a recently released report on accredited and trustworthy labels, but also in Germany by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie) as well as internationally through organic retailers networks and consumer studies.
